F. A. Q.

Q: Do the plugins work with Final Cut Pro 5?

A: YES, we've just posted the new set of pluings for Final Cut Pro 5. That version of FCP introduced some bug's and a few of the plugins broke. But the've all been fixed. If you already own the plugins, go to the member pages and re-download the new version. Not only do you get the FCP 5 support - but there's a gagle of NEW FEATURES! So upgrade today! Note for the FCP 3.0 users... pepole - no offense but upgrade man... it's been like 3 years? Anyway, the FCP 3.0 plugins still work just fine and are still part of the package. They just don't have the new upgrades because the can't. Sorry!

Q: How do I get to these MEMBER PAGES?

A: First, click HERE. If you don't have your username and password, send an email with your name and email used to buy the plugins to: eurekaplugins@kafwang.com.

Q: What's new with the Name Change?

A: We've decided to change the names of the plugs from "Eureka! 4.0" to "Eureka! Volume #4" etc... we just found that the old name scheme was making it confusing. 5.0 was not and upgrade to 4.0. They are two different sets of plugins. The plugins are the same. They have been silghtly upgraded with new names and stuff.

Q: Any other big news?

A: Yes! But first, lets remember that FCP 3.x = FCExpress 1.x. And FCP 4.x = FCExpress 2.x.

Now, all the plugins have FCP 3.x versions. The Volume #4, and #5, Alpha Wipes, and LiteMeUp. They all have FCP 3.x versions of the plugins in the folder of other stuff. There are installers for FCP 4.x and FCExpress 2.x. Alpha Wipes and LiteMeUp work with both FCP and FCE but for FCE you must specifiy the plugin folder in the installer.

Q: Is there documentations with the plugins?

A: One of the new features of Eureka is the online documentation. We're working on a full documentation for the plugins. You cna find the docs at: http://www.kafwang.com/eureka/documentation/docframeset.html

Q: How about Eureka! 5.0?

A: The 2nd set of Eureka plugins is called "Eureka! 5.0" It works with Final Cut Pro (HD.) Currently, the 5.0 plugins work with FCP 4.x OR FCP 3.x.

Q: How is it that Eureka! is the "ORIGINAL" Final Cut Pro Plugins?

A: The very firsy set of native plugins for Final Cut Pro were called Eureka! There was a website that sat in the basement in-law apartment in San Francisco of fella who worked at Apple. He made quite a few plugins and gave them away for free! Don't beleive it or want to relive som "history?" Check out the ORIGINAL WEBSITE! Beyond that, here is the look of the original website that never got posted! Until Now.... CLICKME!

Q: Do the 4.0 PLUGIN's work with Final Cut Express?

A: YES! This is new news! We just finished up an installer for Final Cut Express. Now you can have the plugins on your Express system too. All CDROM's shipped have an installer for Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express. There is also a download version for Final Cut Express. (versions 1 and 2 of FCExpress are compatible)

Q: Do the PLUGIN's work with Final Cut Pro 3.0?

A: This is a fun situation, you have FCP 3 and 3.01 on OS 9 and FCP 3.0, 3.01, and 3.02 on OS X. Okay, here is the deal:

When you buy the 4.0 plugins, you get the FCP 3.x AND the FCP 4.x versions in the same donwload.

However, the new installer program only works for Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro 4.x.

For FCP 3.x, the plugins are in a folder called "Folder O' Other Stuff." To install the plugins is simple. All you have to do is to drag the folder of the plugins to your FCP plugin folder. That's it! It's pretty easy.

Now, the 5.0 plugins are for FCP 4.x Only. We will be making a Final Cut Express version and we will look at FCP 3.x too. But these will come at a later date.

Q: What's a PLUGIN?

A: A plugin is a piece of software the "plugs into" another piece of software to add more functionality to it. IOW, when you install plugin's to a program like Final Cut Pro, you can do more cool things with FCP. The Eureka! Plugins are filters (filters will alter a whole clip of video in a certian way,) transitions (transitions change the video from one clip to another in a certian way,) and a few generators (generators are artificially created clips that were never shot with film or a video camera, they are created by the computer.)

Q: What's new that I should be paying money for?

A: The plugins are now fixed for 4.0. Most of the old plugins don't work properly in 4.0 nor are they written for the new YUV stuff in FCP. In addition to fixing them up, we've added new features to many of them. Like the ChromaGlow. You can now have it randomly flash the amount of glow. There are also a few new plugins. Much like Apple... ahem... "improved" upon AVID and da Vinci, I'm trying to create plugins for you guys that are basically cheap immitaions of the big boys.

Q: Why should I buy Eureka! How are they better than the other guys?

A: Well, I'd say they are different. When you do a project, people want something new and different, they don't usually think that same old thing is cool. It's important to always have plenty of plugins to choose from. At only 50 bucks, you can have these no matter what else you have! Different is cool. You never know what you're gonna need or what look your going for, or how a different plugins that is supposed to be the same kinda thing may work better on a certian clip you have. The only thing that you *might* consider better about Eureka! Plugins is that they are cheap.

Q: I paid good money for these plugins, what's that FXScript Error Crap!?

A: I don't know. To be honest. The scrip works, it only gets that red screen when you scrub some of the sliders. I think that it has something to do with the error code in FCP. I don't think that there is anything wrong with the plugins as the plugins work just fine when you render them. I am in touch with Apple on this one and they are looking into it. This applies only to the Eureka 4.0 plugs. The 5.0 plugs are written around this problem.

Q: If I buy this set of plugins, are upgrades free?

A: Different than other guys, I need to keep this simple. That means no serials, no registration, no nothing. You buy it, you got it. I have in the plan the ability to do a 4.X that will fix anything that may come up. If you buy the plugins, your info will go on record when you buy it. If there needs to be a "dot" release, then I will post as such. You will then be able to get it after entering in your proper email and puchase info. These "dot release" downloads will be free, CD requests will be $10.00. A"dot release" just fixes bugs that may be introduced by new versions of FCP, they are not new feature sets.

There will also be another Eureka! 5.0 set which will be a WAY COOL set of more new plugins. Buy it when it comes out as it will be cool. I am trying to keep this easy so that I can do it and keep the price way low.

Q: What is "KAFWANG"

A: "KAFWANG" is the key word in the "What Game." The "What Game" is played by people who like to have fun. If you're too serious, then the "What Game" is not for you. The "What Game" goes like this: It's a gentalmanly game where you try to get the other person to say "What." Here's and example:

person 1: "I know what we can do today."

person 2: "what?"

person 1: "KAFWANG SUCKA! I got you!"

That would be considered like a point, although it's not really about points, it's about the celebration of getting someone. You should follow getting someone with a lot of hoopla like "I got you sucker!" and "I can't believe you fell for that!" or "That was soooo easy, what were you thinking?!?" etc....

Now, it's kinda like pool, you have to be intending to get the person, it's not like you sit around waiting for people to say what and then you say "KAFWANG." You have to be trying to get them to say "what," that's the whole point. This the typical failure of a person that is too serious, they get pissed off that you got them and they start saying "Kafwang" at every turn around. It's not fun playing with people like that.

Now of course, there is a defense. If you feel as though someone is trying to get you to say what, you can defend by saying "What Kafwang." That's a saftey. It's not a point, but it is considered a good block.

Other good examples of how to get a person is the the garbled phone call, it goes like this:

person 1 on the phone: "Hello, is blahdablee blah goodle nookie wookie?"

person 2 on the other end: "What?"

person 1 on the phone: "KAFWANG SUCKA! I got you! I can't beleive you fell for that!?"

Notice the celebration at the end of the Kafwang, it's very important.

Q: Is this the end of the FAQ?

A: Yes, it is!
